The cost of Invisalign in Australia: what's included at our Bowral practice

Invisalign at The Grand Dental Surgery in Bowral starts from $3,800. Your exact cost depends on how much your teeth need to move and how many aligners your plan needs, and you'll receive a written treatment plan with costs before you commit. You can spread the cost with Zip or humm's National Dental Plan, and claim health fund rebates on the spot through HICAPS.

This guide explains what the price includes, why it varies from person to person, how health fund cover and payment plans work, and what to ask when comparing quotes. For an overview of the treatment itself, see Invisalign at our Bowral practice.

What's included in the price of Invisalign?

Invisalign at our practice follows four stages, and your quote covers all of them.

  1. Consultation. You discuss your goals with Dr Shekher Arora. You can choose to have digital scans taken, which are used to create a digital simulation of how your teeth could move. The consultation is complimentary.
  2. Treatment planning. You approve your treatment plan at a separate appointment. Once you're happy, your custom aligners are ordered.
  3. Aligners and progress checks. Your progress is checked every 4 to 6 weeks.
  4. Retainers. When your teeth reach their planned position, you're fitted with retainers to help hold the result. Retainers are included.

A digital simulation shows how your teeth are planned to move. It is a planning tool and not your final result, as results vary between patients.

Why does the cost of Invisalign vary from person to person?

Invisalign is custom-made for each patient, so there is no single price that applies to everyone. The main factors are:

FactorWhy it affects the cost
How much your teeth need to moveMild crowding or small gaps usually need fewer aligners than significant crowding or a bite that needs correcting
How many aligners your plan needsEach set moves your teeth a small amount, so more movement means more sets
How consistently you wear the alignersWearing them less than prescribed can slow progress and extend treatment
Lost or broken alignersReplacements carry no fee, but time without aligners will extend treatment

What should you ask when comparing Invisalign quotes?

Aligner prices can look very different from one practice to the next, partly because quotes don't always include the same things.

The first thing to check is which aligner you are being quoted for. Several companies make clear aligners, and Invisalign is one brand, made by Align Technology. At The Grand Dental Surgery we provide Invisalign only, and Dr Shekher Arora is a Gold Invisalign provider who manages your treatment from start to finish.

Before comparing prices, ask each provider:

  • Is the quote for Invisalign, or for another aligner system?
  • Is the consultation free or charged, and are scans and a digital simulation included? At our practice, the consultation is complimentary.
  • What does the quoted price include: aligners, progress checks, any additional aligners needed to fine-tune the result, and retainers?
  • How often will I need to visit, and are those visits included?
  • What happens, and what does it cost, if I lose or break an aligner?
  • Which payment plans are available, and what fees apply? At our practice, interest-free options are available through Zip, humm and Afterpay; account fees and provider terms apply.
  • Is there anything about my teeth or gums that needs treating first?

A quote that looks lower may not include everything you'll need, so comparing like with like gives you a clearer picture. Our quote covers your Invisalign treatment from start to finish: your consultation, aligners, progress checks, replacement aligners if needed, and retainers.

Does private health insurance cover Invisalign?

It depends on your fund.

The most reliable way to find out what you can claim is to ask your fund directly, using the item numbers listed on your treatment plan. We can provide these after your consultation.

We accept all major health funds, and HICAPS lets you claim your rebate on the spot at the practice so you only pay the gap.

Can you pay for Invisalign in instalments?

Yes. The Grand Dental Surgery offers several dental payment plans. Each is provided by a third party, which sets its own limits, fees and approval criteria:

OptionHow it worksLimits and fees (as listed on our site)
Zip (Zipmoney)Repay weekly, fortnightly or monthly, with up to 18 months interest-freeUp to $10,000
humm National Dental PlanNo-interest plan with repayments over up to 36 monthsUp to $20,000; $8 monthly account fee
AfterpayFour equal payments taken every two weeks, interest-freeUp to $1,500, so suited to smaller amounts
HICAPSOn-the-spot health fund claims at the practiceRebate depends on your fund and cover

Approval isn't guaranteed and each provider's terms can change, so please read the current terms on the provider's website before applying.

What can make Invisalign cost more than expected?

Most people pay what their treatment plan says. The things that can add to the cost are usually avoidable or are picked up before treatment starts:

  • Dental work needed first. Teeth and gums need to be healthy before they are moved. Decay or gum problems found at your consultation are treated first and priced separately.
  • Not wearing aligners enough. Aligners only move teeth while they are in. Wearing them less than prescribed can extend treatment and may mean extra aligners are needed.
  • Not wearing retainers. Teeth can drift after treatment. Wearing retainers as advised protects the result you have paid for.

If you need treatment before starting Invisalign, our fees chart lists from-prices, including a check-up and clean from $249 and a tooth-coloured filling from $270.

How can you keep your Invisalign costs on track?

A few habits make the biggest difference to keeping treatment on time and on budget:

  1. Wear your aligners for around 22 hours a day and only take them out to eat, drink anything other than water, and clean your teeth.
  2. Always put your aligners in their case when they are out. Wrapped in a napkin, they are easily thrown away.
  3. Move to each new set of aligners on the schedule you're given. Our text message reminders help you keep track.
  4. Keep your progress check appointments so any issue is picked up early.
  5. Keep up your brushing, flossing and regular check-ups so you don't need extra dental work mid-treatment.
  6. Wear your retainers as advised once treatment finishes.

Can you start Invisalign if you need other dental work?

Often, yes, but in the right order. Any decay, gum disease or other problems are usually treated before straightening begins, because moving teeth with unhealthy gums or untreated decay can make those problems worse. Dr Arora will explain the sequence at your consultation.

Does Invisalign cost the same for teenagers?

The same factors drive the cost for teenagers as for adults: how much the teeth need to move and how many aligners are needed.

For a side-by-side look at aligners and fixed braces for teens, see our guide to Invisalign vs braces.

Is Invisalign worth the cost?

That depends on what matters to you. Invisalign suits people who want a discreet, removable option and can commit to wearing their aligners for most of the day. It suits most cases, though for some people fixed braces are the better option. Our guide to Invisalign vs braces compares the two side by side.

Questions that can help you decide:

  • Do you want an option you can take out for meals, work events or photos?
  • Can you realistically wear aligners for most of the day, every day?
  • Does the quote include everything you'll need, including retainers?
  • Would a payment plan make the cost manageable without stretching your budget?

Straight teeth can also be easier to brush and floss, which helps you look after your teeth and gums. The best way to judge whether the cost is worthwhile for you is to see your own treatment plan, including the expected timeframe and what's included.

How do you get an exact quote?

Book a complimentary Invisalign consultation. At that visit, Dr Arora will check your teeth, gums and bite, talk through what you'd like to change, and let you know whether Invisalign is a good fit. If you'd like to go ahead, you'll receive a treatment plan with your costs, and you approve it at a separate appointment. There's no obligation to proceed.
